OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A custodian at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh was fired for letting non-residents into a residence hall to socialize.
According to a letter sent by the school to students living in Evans and Stewart halls, police were alerted to the intruders in the basement of Evans Hall shortly before midnight on April 24.
“Upon investigation, it was determined that two non-residents had been let into the building by an employee. Thanks to the timely report by student-residents, police were able to quickly respond. An individual was arrested for Resisting/Obstructing. The employee has been terminated by UWO,” it states.
The college praised the student who reported the incident.
“It is important to acknowledge the proactive response of the students who reported the suspicious activity. Their prompt action allowed the authorities to quickly resolve the issue. We encourage all members of our community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately. Appropriate measures have been taken to minimize the likelihood of similar incidents occurring in the future,” the letter states.

Dear Evans and Stewart residents,
We write to inform you of an incident that occurred last evening. Around midnight, police were alerted to suspicious individuals in the basement of Evans Hall. Upon investigation, it was determined that two non-residents had been let into the building by an employee. Thanks to the timely report by student-residents, police were able to quickly respond. An individual was arrested for Resisting/Obstructing. The employee has been terminated by UWO.
