OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An overturned ethanol tanker shut down part of an Oshkosh highway for around 14 hours Wednesday.
Officials say it happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the area of Highway 91 and Oakwood Road.
Two apartment buildings and a nearby business, 4imprint, were evacuated as a precaution.
“We don’t have any leaks at this time that we know of but we also don’t know what’s on the other side of that tanker. So we have all our fire crews out here, hoses ready to go, our hazmat team doing all the work before hand to make sure that once it is flipped, it is safe for everybody that’s around here,” said Oshkosh Fire Department public information officer, John Holland.
“To get this tanker back on its wheels, you would think it sounds like you hook it up and flip it, but it’s way more than that,” Holland said.
Firefighters said they didn’t notice any leaks in the tanker, but what they could not see under the truck made the removal process delicate.
“We have all our fire crews out here,” Holland said. “It’s safe for everybody that’s around here.”
No one was injured.
The road reopened shortly before 4 p.m.
